Eligibility Criteria

Who is eligible?
-
18 years or older.
-
Prior history of lumpectomy and radiation in the breast (DCIS or invasive).
-
Must have a recurrent or new breast cancer in the same breast that previously received radiation (DCIS or invasive).
-
Tumour size must be 3 cm or smaller.
-
At least 5 years since prior breast radiation (lymph node radiation is okay).
-
Cancer must not have spread to lymph nodes or elsewhere.
-
Surgical site must be healed with no infection.
-
No cancer cells at the edges of removed tissue.

Who is ineligible?
-
Significant skin damage from previous radiation.
-
Cancer in multiple areas of the breast (except within the same quadrant).
-
Only lobular carcinoma type.
-
Cancer that is very large or that has spread to skin, chest wall, lymph nodes, or distant areas.
-
Unable to start radiation within 16 weeks post-surgery (12 weeks post-chemotherapy).

Unable to accurately view the surgical site for this type of partial breast radiation planning.

Pregnant or breastfeeding.​

Breast implant or pacemaker on the affected side.
-
Severe health conditions (e.g., heart, lung diseases, lupus, scleroderma) that affect radiation safety.

Severe psychiatric conditions preventing protocol adherence.
